On the afternoon of the 23rd of September, 2025, in Porto Alegre, approximately 80 people took part in the first public meeting of the Organising Committee for the First International Anti-Fascist Conference, scheduled for March 2026. The meeting was held in the Porto Alegre Bank Workers’ Union auditorium.

Among the speakers at the meeting were Raúl Pont, former mayor of Porto Alegre (1993-1997) and leader of the Workers’ Party (PT); Roberto Robaina, city councillor and president of the PSOL in Porto Alegre; Edison Puchalski, president of PCdoB in Rio Grande do Sul state; Lara Rodrigues, part of the MST (Landless Workers’ Movement) Rio Grande do Sul state board and member of its national board; and Eric Toussaint, international spokesperson for the CADTM (Committee for the Abolition of Third World Debt).

The audience included representatives from various trade unions, and student, feminist, and popular education organisations. Were also there Rodrigo Dilelio, current president of the Workers’ Party (PT) in Porto Alegre; Leonel Radde and Luciana Genro, state parliament representatives for the Workers’ Party (PT) and PSOL in Rio Grande do Sul; Raul Carrión, from PCdoB leadership board; and Israel Dutra, member of the PSOL national leadership board.

The International Antifascist Conference will be held in Porto Alegre from the 26th to 29th of March 2026. One of the main organisers, Gabi Tolotitate president of PSOL in Rio Grande do Sul, was unable to attend because she is part of a Flotilla of more than 40 boats heading to Gaza, which is currently nearby Malta.

The local organising committee, currently composed by the MST (Municipal Workers’ Movement), trade unions, PSOL, PT, and PCdoB, is expected to be expanded in the coming days.
