This Sunday morning (February 22, 2026), the Metalworkers’ Union of Cachoeirinha (RS) hosted the preparatory and mobilizing Pre-Conference for the 1st International Antifascist Conference for the Sovereignty of the Peoples, which will be held from March 26 to 29, 2026 in Porto Alegre, Brazil.

The working group included political and social leaders, among them public prosecutor Janine Soares (President of the National Association of Prosecutors and Public Prosecutors of Private Foundations and Entities of Social Interest), congresswoman Luciana Genro (PSOL), historian and former congressman Raul Carrion (PCdoB), professor Juçara Dutra (former President of the PT in RS state and first President of the CNTE), Gabi Tolotti (President of the PSOL in RS state), Rodrigo Dilelio (President of the PT of Porto Alegre), Roberto Robaina (President of the PSOL of Porto Alegre and city councilor), and city councilor Gustavo Almansa (PT of Cachoeirinha town).

More than 70 leaders from various entities attended the event, which was led by Vera Sarmento, President of the PCdoB of Cachoeirinha and former President of the town’s Health Council.

The interventions highlighted the importance of the International Conference as a response from democratic, progressive, and left-wing forces to the global advance of the far right and imperialist aggressions, demonstrating that the fight against fascism cannot be dissociated from resistance to imperialism and the offensives of hegemonic powers against peoples and nations that defend their self-determination, such as Palestine, Cuba, Venezuela, and Iran.

The meeting also pointed to the need for unity within the democratic, progressive, and left-wing camp, overcoming minor differences to confront the offensive of the Brazilian far right.

Every day, the 1st International Anti-Fascist Conference for the Sovereignty of Peoples gains strength. Follow the programme and pre-register at antifas2026.org.
