The event will bring together progressive forces and grassroots organizations in March 2026 to discuss global strategies against neo-fascism and imperialism

On the night of Tuesday 14th of October, the auditorium of the Rio Grande do Sul State Parliament hosted a meeting that promises to mark the calendar of international progressive struggles. The General Meeting for the 1st International Anti-Fascist Conference preparation brought together activists, members of parliament, and representatives of grassroots organizations to shape an event that will take place from March 26 to 29, 2026, in Porto Alegre.

The central purpose of the meeting  was to immediately expand and incorporate new organizations, entities, social movements, and unions into the conference’s building process. The message was clear: the current organizing committee—composed of PSOL, PT, PCdoB, CPERS, ADUFRGs, and MST—is only the initial nucleus that convened the meeting, but the 1st International Antifascist Conference will be a collective effort, open to all parties and organisations willing to take part on it.

Starting with this meeting, the conference will be convened and strengthened by a growing number of entities and organizations that have already expressed support and adherence to the initiative (see below).

After a series of discussions, the committee reached six main topics that could form the basis of the main agenda. However, this is still an initial definition that should be shared and discussed with the initiative’s international partners. It will be with them that the final format will be defined. These topics are:

  • – The Far Right’s offensive momentum in the World: Causes, Consequences, and Challenges
  • – The Anti-Imperialist Struggle and Internationalism Among Peoples
  • – Brazil Under Attack from Imperialism and Neofascism
  • – The Fight against the Far Right in the Americas
  • – The Palestinian Question
  • – Resistance, Networks, and Alternatives

The remaining activities, as explained by the participants, will be developed collaboratively by the participating organizations.

“Our idea is that these people who are here, these organizations that are joining together, will truly take the conference for themselves and organize other activities in the city center, in the outskirts, in universities, in the occupations,” emphasized the president of the PSOL of Rio Grande do Sul, Gabi Tolotti, an activist who recently took part in the Global Sumud Flotilla for Palestine. “Registrations for the self-organized activities will open soon. The more activities we have, the stronger and more people we will involve,” she added.

Councilmember Roberto Robaina (PSOL-RS) recalled that the conference had already been planned for 2024, but had to be suspended due to flooding in the state. Now, with its resumption, the goal is to expand its reach and the international engagement.

“The most important thing about this meeting is to incorporate organizations, entities, and parties that want to participate. The anti-fascist conference must be broad, uniting many forces, because there is no more decisive field than the anti-fascist one,” he explained.

Robaina also emphasized that Porto Alegre has the symbolic and historical conditions to host the meeting.

“Fascism cannot be defeated simply through elections. Fascism is defeated through the balance of power, and ultimately, it is the streets that have the final say. We need to politicize the society, put the concept of anti-fascist and anti-imperialist struggles on the streets,” he stated.

Communist leader Raul Carrion (PCdoB) advocated that the conference unite the struggles against fascism and imperialism, which he defined as “Siamese twins.”

“US imperialism has become overwhelming and warlike. Therefore, we reached a consensus that this conference must also affirm the sovereignty of the peoples. It will, therefore, be the 1st International Anti-Fascist Conference for the Sovereignty of the Peoples,” he said.

Carrion also anticipated the intention to create thematic spaces on youth, education, racial and women’s oppression, as well as the workers’ struggle against neoliberalism.

The president of the PT (Workers’ Party) in Porto Alegre, Rodrigo Dilélio, emphasized that the process of building the conference will be collective and pluralistic.

“We will begin a process of consultations, consolidating a broader program that can also be a stage for self-managed actions, as was the case with the World Social Forum,” he stated.

The meeting also served as a space to gather support from institutions, unions, and grassroots organizations that wish to participate in the event’s development—whether with infrastructure, workforce, or activity proposals.

More than just a meeting, the 1st International Anti-Fascist Conference emerges as a trench of resistance and hope, ready to recapture the spirit of the World Social Forum and reaffirm Porto Alegre as a territory of social struggle, solidarity, and global popular organization.
